Summer FAQ’s

When is Tromsø’s summer season?

Tromsø doesn’t have a defined “summer season”. Locals would determine summer from when the Midnight Sun rises and falls. Our summer season starts a couple of weeks after our Northern Lights season finishes in April. We run summer tours from 1st May until 15th August, just before the Northern Lights return,

What will the weather be like?

Due to Tromsø’s northern location, the average temperature throughout summer is only around 12 degrees. This doesn’t mean that it won’t get warmer however! I have experienced Tromsø in 30+ degrees a couple of times. I have also experienced snow in June, so be prepared for anything.

What is the minimum and maximum group size on a tour?

Solo travellers are welcome! We only require 1 to run a tour and a maximum of 4 guests.

Are the tours suitable for those with mobility issues?

Unfortunately, our hiking tours are not suitable for individuals with mobility issues. However, our summer tours use a Tesla Model Y for transport, offering accessible options. For those with mobility issues not requiring a wheelchair, our Arctic Sightseeing Tour can be tailored to accommodate your needs.

What clothing is recommended?

When packing for summer in Tromsø, it's essential to prepare for variable weather conditions by bringing layered clothing. Despite warmer temperatures, it's wise to have waterproof outerwear handy for sudden rain showers and windy spells. Ensure you're comfortable and ready for outdoor exploration with sturdy pants and waterproof hiking boots. Don't forget sun protection - wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to shield yourself from the Arctic sun. Consider packing gloves for cooler evenings or higher altitudes. Opt for moisture-wicking fabrics to stay dry and comfortable throughout your adventures. Bring insect repellent as well as mosquitos love Tromsø.

Will there still be snow?

Unlikely but it could happen! There will more than likely still be snow in the mountains but unlikely at sea level.

When does the Midnight Sun season start?

The Midnight Sun does not set between May 20th and July 22nd.

Is there any chance of seeing wildlife?

Yes! We can’t promise anything but you may see a variety of birds, arctic fox, reindeer, moose, seals, otters and dolphins on your trip.

How long does the Arctic sightseeing tour last and where will I visit?

Our Arctic sightseeing tour typically lasts around 4 hours. The weather will dictate where we visit on our tour. We may visit places such as; Sommaroy, Ersfjordbotn, Grotfjord, Oldervik, Laksvatn and many more. It all depends on the weather forecast!

Why do the Midnight Sun hiking tours start at different times?

The Midnight Sun hiking tours start a different times depending on how far the hike is from Tromso and how long it takes to reach the summit. Ideally I would want my guests to be on the summit at midnight to get the full experience.

Why isn’t there a Midnight Sun option for Blåvatnet?

Unfortunately the ferry crossing doesn’t operate through the night so Blåvatnet cannot be considered for a Midnight Sun hiking option.
